hummus

 

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been a hummus fan. Well, that is until now. 

It’s funny because my nephew LOVES hummus. He’d marry it, if he could. 🙂 

It was my daughter that started eating hummus. Sure, I’d buy it every now and then, but I’d get tired of it quickly. Then my daughter decided to try it. She loved it!

I wasn’t too thrilled with the options at the store and ran across a recipe that was raved about in a Facebook group.

We tried it and liked it, but, of course, we decided to make it so much better. 😉 

Hummus is so fast & easy to make, it only takes a few minutes. 

And my favorite part, is that it’s so healthy for you.

The garbanzo beans (aka chickpeas) add protein and fiber, which helps you feel full, as well as iron, folate & B vitamins. The lemon juice adds immune boosting vitamin C, and raw garlic is antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory.1

 

 

Oil-free Hummus
Total Cooking Time: 5 minutes

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups garbanzo beans (2-15.5 oz cans)
  • 1/2 cup tahini
  • 5-6 garlic cloves
  • juice from half a lemon
  • 3 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c cup water
  • 1/4 tsp paprika 

 

DIRECTIONS

  1. Rinse and drain the garbanzo beans, if using canned beans.
  2. Place all ingredients in a high speed blender or food processor.
  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Adjust spices to taste.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Some of our favorite ways to eat hummus is with chopped vegetables, tortilla or pita chips, spread on a sandwich. You can even spread it on a romaine lettuce leaf and top with sprouts, cucumbers, tomatoes, & onions for a yummy wrap. It’s so versatile!
