Chia Seed Jam_jar

 

Chia seed jam is super easy to make and is so yummy! 

Traditional jam is full of sugar and pectin, but this jam gets its thickness from the chia seeds.

Once a liquid has been added to chia seeds, they hold up to 12 times their weight in water and form a gel.

Not to mention that chia seeds are a nutrition powerhouse, despite their tiny size. 

Rich in nutrients and antioxidants (which help your cells against oxidation), chia seeds are filled with omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. 

And they help you feel full due to their fiber and protein content. 1

My daughter started making chia seed jam last year and loves it on pancakes or crepes. 

I love it that my kids have a healthier alternative to traditional jam.

 

Chia Seed Jam_crepes

Strawberry chia seed jam in chocolate crepes.

 

 

Chia Seed Jam

Prep time: 5 minutes
Total time: 25-30 minutes

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 1-1/2 berries
  • 2-3 tbsp honey, maple syrup or agave
  • 3 tbsp chia seeds (or 2 tbsp for a sauce)

 

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place berries and sweetener in a small saucepan over medium heat, and cook for approximately 5 minutes, until berries are warmed through.
  2. Smash berries in the pan. 
  3. Stir in chia seeds.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low, and cook for another 15-20 minutes. 
  5. Serve warm over pancakes or crepes, or cold over ice cream or in PBJ sandwich. 
  6. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
